How to Set Up a Stud Gun for Welding Insul-Twist/Christmas Tree/Rectangular Studs

WELDER BRANDS: This setup works for Truweld, Proweld, Midwest Fasteners, Erico, and Image light duty stud welder guns.


Items Needed to Weld Rectangular Studs

STEP 1: Determine the Arc Gun Chuck Adaptor you need.

STEP 2:Screw Arc Gun Chuck Adaptor into stud welding gun.

STEP 3:Place the Arc Chuck Rectangular into the Arc Gun Chuck Adaptor.  Hold the Arc Gun Chuck Adaptorand Arc Chuck Rectangular in one hand and with the other hand lightly hammer or mallet the Arc Chuck Rectangular to ensure it is seated properly.

STEP 4: Determine the size Arc Foot Split you need.  

  • Longest Stud Length 1/8" - 1/2": Small
  • Longest Stud Length 5/8": Medium

STEP 5: Screw the 3/8" Arc Legs into the Arc Foot.  The recess of the foot should face out.  Leave the screws loose until you make your final plunge adjustment.

STEP 6:Place the Ferrule Grip - Split into the Arc Foot Split.  Tighten set screws.

STEP 7: Slide the foot assembly into the gun.

STEP 8: Insert a stud into the Arc Chuck Rectangular.

STEP 9: Adjust the foot assembly so that the stud is in the middle of the Ferrule Grip.  Tighten the leg screws.

STEP 9:Put a ferrule on the end of the stud and make the plunge adjustment of 1/4".  The plunge is the amount of the stud that sticks out past the ferrule grip not including the flux ball.

  • Loosen the leg screws in the gun.
  • Adjust the plunge.
  • Tighten the leg screws in the gun.
