Follow these step-by-step instructions to properly set up your stud gun to weld threaded or non thread drawn arc studs.
Determine the size and type of Nelson Style Arc Foot you need.
Stud Diameter 1/8" - 1/2": Small
Stud Diameter 5/8" - 3/4": Medium
Stud Diameter 7/8" - 1": Large
Use a Closed Foot for stud lengths of 2" and shorter.
For longer studs, use a Split foot to ease the loading of the stud into the gun.
Screw the 5/16" Arc Legs into the Nelson Style Arc Foot. The recess of the foot should face out. Leave the screws loose until you make your final plunge adjustment.
Determine the ferrule grip you need. For studs 2" and shorter, use a closed ferrule grip. For studs longer than 2" use a split ferrule grip.
Insert the Ferrule Grip in the Nelson Style Arc Foot. Tighten the set screws.
Insert a stud in the arc chuck. Slide the foot assembly into the gun so that stud sticks out past the foot piece.
Adjust the foot assembly so that the stud is centered in the middle of the Ferrule Grip. Tighten the leg screws.
Put a ferrule on the end of the stud and make the plunge adjustment. The plunge is the amount of the stud that sticks out past the ferrule grip not including the flux ball.
Loosen the leg screws in the gun. Adjust the plunge. Tighten the leg screws in the gun.
Stud Diameter Plunge
3/8" - 1/2": 3/16" - 1/4"
5/8" - 3/4": 1/4" - 5/16"
