Stud Gun Setup Guide for Threaded and non thread Arc Studs

Follow these step-by-step instructions to properly set up your stud gun to weld threaded or non thread drawn arc studs using a heavy and light duty stud guns.

This setup works for Truweld, Proweld, Midwest Fasteners, Erico, and Image stud welder guns.

STEP 1 - Insert Arc Chuck Adaptor (HD GUNS ONLY)

STEP 2 - Insert the Arc Chuck

Place the Arc Chuck into the Arc Gun Chuck Adaptor.  Hold the Arc Gun Chuck Adaptor and Arc Chuck in one hand and with the other hand lightly hammer or mallet the Arc Chuck to ensure it is seated properly.

STEP 3 - Determine the foot

Determine the size and type of Arc Foot you need.  

Stud Diameter:

Stud Diameter 1/8" - 1/2": Small

Stud Diameter 5/8" - 3/4": Medium

Stud Diameter 7/8" - 1": Large

Stud Length:

Less than 2": Closed Foot

Greater than:2": Split Foot

STEP 4 - Make the foot assembly

Screw the 3/8" Arc Legs into the Arc Foot.  The recess of the foot should face out.  Leave the screws loose until you make your final plunge adjustment.

STEP 5 - Add the foot assembly to the gun

Slide the foot assembly into the gun so that Arc Chuck sticks out past the foot piece.

STEP 6 - Insert Stud

Insert an Arc Stud stud into the Arc Chuck.

STEP 7 - Determine ferrule grip

Determine the ferrule grip you need. For studs 2" and shorter, use a closed ferrule grip.  For studs longer than 2" use a split ferrule grip.

STEP 8 - Add ferrule grip to foot

Insert the Ferrule Grip in the Arc Foot.  Tighten the set screws.

STEP 9 - Center the stud in the grip

Adjust the foot assembly so that the stud is centered in the middle of the Ferrule Grip.  Tighten the leg screws.

STEP 10 - Adjust the Plunge

Put a ferrule on the end of the stud and make the plunge adjustment.  The plunge is the amount of the stud that sticks out past the ferrule grip not including the flux ball.

Adjust the plunge. Tighten the leg screws in the gun.

Stud Diameter: Plunge
3/8" & 1/2": 3/16" - 1/4"
5/8" & 3/4": 1/4" - 5/16"
7/8" & 1" : 5/16" - 3/8"
