  • How to Set Up a Stud Gun for Welding Threaded Arc Studs

    WELDER BRANDS:

This setup works for Truweld, Proweld, Midwest Fasteners, Erico, H.A. Jones, and SWS stud welder guns.

STEP 1: Determine the gun adaptor you need.

STEP 2: Determine the ferrule grip you need.   For studs 2" and shorter, use a closed ferrule grip.  For studs longer than 2" use a split ferrule grip.

STEP 3: Determine the arc legs you need.  For most domestic stud welders including Proweld®, Truweld, Midwest Fasteners®, Nelson® NS20, Image and Erico stud welding guns use the 3/8" legs.  For Nelson 30/40 guns, use the 5/16" leg.

STEP 4: Determine the size arc foot you need.

    • Small: Stud Size 1/8" - 1/2"
    • Medium: Stud Size 5/8" - 3/4"
    • Large: Stud Size 7/8" - 1"

STEP 5: Determine the type of arc foot you need.  Generally, use a closed foot for stud lengths < 2".  For longer studs use a split foot and ferrule grip to ease loading of the stud into the gun.

    STEP 6: Assemble gun
